A Luxury Experience at the Blue Lagoon Retreat Spa

It’s pretty well known that the Blue Lagoon is a must-do while visiting Iceland. There are two ticket options to get into the Blue Lagoon, Comfort and Premium. With Comfort, you get entrance into the lagoon, a silica mud mask, a towel, and one drink. Premium includes all that plus two additional masks, a bathrobe, and a glass of sparkling wine if dining at the Lava restaurant. While either of these would be an incredible experience, the Blue Lagoon does tend to get filled with people.

When going to book our tickets, we realized that both the Comfort and the Premium tickets were sold out on the day we wanted to go.

Enter: The Blue Lagoon Luxury Retreat Spa. After experiencing the Retreat Spa, I don’t think I could ever do the regular Blue Lagoon again. We ended up getting tickets to this once we realized it was the only thing available left on the day we were planning to visit the lagoon, but it was totally worth the price.. With the ticket, you get five hours at the retreat spa, which includes a private changing room (complete with dual showers, bathrobes, flip flops, and skin and hair care products) and access to both

the Retreat Lagoon and the regular Blue Lagoon. There is a separate parking lot and entrance to the Retreat Spa. You also get access to 8 subterranean spaces, The Blue Lagoon Ritual with skincare amenities, a welcome drink, and access to the Retreat Spa Restaurant. The Retreat Spa has about 30 changing rooms and only 2 people are allowed in each room, meaning the spa itself only has around 60 people at a time. This is way less than the Blue Lagoon, so already you have a more intimate and relaxing experience. You also receive a wristband that connects to your room, so no need to carry money or a room key! I will emphasize that this is definitely an experience for two. The private room costs the same whether it is one person using it or two, so absolutely take a friend, partner, etc. To buy tickets to the retreat spa, visit the link below: https://www.bluelagoon.com/day-visit/retreat-spa .

While the less crowded Retreat Spa Lagoon is an amazing benefit of the Retreat Spa, the best part in my opinion was the Blue Lagoon Ritual. I don’t want to spoil the ritual experience entirely, but I’ll just say my skin has never felt better. If you’d like to know what you’re getting into, here are some more details: https://www.bluelagoon.com/topics/the-blue-lagoon-ritual . The subterranean spaces are also great to check out if you have the time. I took a nice nap in the nest, and it was definitely one of the best naps I’ve ever had. For more information on the subterranean spaces, you can go here: https://www.bluelagoon.com/topics/spaces-in-the-spa . Another thing to note about the Retreat Spa is that pictures are not allowed. This is definitely different from the Blue Lagoon where tons of people have their phones, but I think it adds to the relaxing experience of the Retreat Spa. However, if you really want a photo, you can ask one of the workers to take it for you on their phone and they’ll send it to you after! We finished off our day at the Retreat Spa Restaurant and enjoyed some steak and crab.

Now for how much that experience costs. I went in a group of three (so we had to get two rooms and ended up paying a little more per person) and spent about $450 in total (including the Retreat Spa tickets, lunch, and drinks). While this is definitely expensive, there are a few ways to bring down the cost. First, have two people in each room. As I said the private rooms cost the same whether one or two people are in them. We split the cost three ways which is why it was higher. Also, for a lower price, go on a weekday or during the winter!

Overall, if you have the time and are willing to pay a little extra, I would definitely recommend going to the Retreat Spa. It was an amazing and relaxing way to wrap up our trip to Iceland!
